Mini liposuction, also known as micro liposuction, is a type of liposuction surgery that is used to improve the appearance of small, targeted areas of the body. During mini lipo treatments, small areas of excess fat are gently removed using a suction device. Mini lipo is intended to quickly treat smaller areas of fat accumulation.
How is Mini Liposuction Surgery Performed?
Mini liposuction is treated much the way as traditional liposuction, except on a smaller scale. First, a saline solution with lidocaine is injected into the treatment area. Then, it is gently suctioned away using a cannula, or hollow metal tube, attached to a very gentle suctioning device. With micro liposuction, the cannula may be as small as 1.5mm in diameter, allowing for very precise fat removal. Up to two pounds of fat may be removed during this procedure. The short incisions needed to insert the cannula into the fat layer usually do not need sutures. Most mini lipo treatments take about an hour to perform.
How much does Mini Liposuction Cost?
Mini liposuction treatments average $2,500. While they are a more affordable alternative to traditional liposuction procedures, they are more expensive per pound of fat removal. Because they require the surgeon to use specialized surgical instruments, mini liposuction surgeries tend to be more expensive than alternatives.
Micro Lipo vs. Traditional Liposuction Surgery
When compared with traditional liposuction, mini liposuction uses a smaller cannula, or metal tube, to suction out the fat. This requires shorter incisions, and results in a faster recovery. However, it does limit the amount of fat that can be removed. Mini liposuction surgeries remove, at most, two to three pounds of fat from the body.
Why Choose Micro Liposuction Surgery?
Mini liposuction is best for patients who are close to their ideal weight, but whose excess weight has gathered into a few relatively small areas that make them self-conscious. This less invasive procedure has a shorter recovery period, which is an important consideration for many patients. It is important to have realistic expectations when undergoing mini liposuction; though it will not result in the drastic changes often associated with liposuction surgery, it can have a significant change in the contours of a targeted area.
